FLMHAC CELEBRATES NAMI NASSAU ADVOCATE KIM LEWIS

FLMHAC is proud of NAMI Nassau Advocate Kim Lewis, who met with her U.S. Congressman, Rep. Aaron Bean, in Washington, D.C., on March 21st, 2024. Congressman Bean represents the 4th District in NE Florida. We thank Kim, Rep. Bean, and NAMI's Director of Congressional Affairs, Government Relations, Policy & Advocacy, Michael Linskey, for providing information on these important bi-partisan federal bills:

The Due Process Continuum of Care Act H.R. 3074 amends the MIEP (Medicaid Inmate Exclusion Policy) to allow for Medicaid coverage of health care services for pre-trial detainees; and provides $50 million in planning grants to states for implementation. This bill would ensure that pre-trial detainees are not kicked off Medicaid prior to ever being found guilty of a crime, protecting their constitutional right to due process.
The Local 988 Response Act H.R. 4974, which would require the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) to route mobile calls to 988, based on the caller's GENERAL location rather than the current method of routing by area code. This connects callers to their closest local call center without identifying their exact location.
